October 5th is World Teachers’ Day, a day in which we recognize and celebrate teachers and their important role in society.
World Teachers’ Day was founded in 1994 by former Canadian teacher Norman Gable. Now an annual event, it profiles the work of over 55-million teachers around the world, including the roughly 2,000 Catholic elementary and secondary teachers who serve in our Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic schools.
They not only provide a quality education to the 29,000 students in our Catholic school system, but through their goodness and Christian example, are witnesses of God’s love in their schools.
In their pastoral letter for Catholic Education called Renewing the Promise, the Catholic Bishops of Ontario described the nurturing role of teachers: “You are powerful witnesses to the presence of Jesus in the lives of our students, and you provide the good soil each school day for the roots of faith to grow in our students.”
On World Teachers’ Day, the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board extends a sincere thank you to its dedicated and hard-working Catholic teachers for their powerful witness and unwavering faith example.
